For this assignment, I was required to find a simple object in my house and create a 5-minute sketch of it in pencil. After that was completed, I would fill it in with pen. When using the pen, I mainly used the hatching method to fill in the object. For some parts, such as the lines on the device, I used more lines and put them closer together in order to make the piece of the drawing darker. I used a small amount of stippling in the areas the cords went in, just so that not all of the white or lighter space was covered in pen. I believe that these pen techniques helped me improve my final drawing for this activity.

other sketchesFinal Drawing1.For this assignment, the first step was to sketch three different "unseen objects" in my house. Then, one of the three would be picked for the final drawing. The image would them be redrawn and improved. I started by taking more pictures of the unseen object and changing them to black and white images in order to see the values better. The one that was chosen for me was the image of the power cords and plugs, since that seemed to be the most successful of the three sketches. I then created a few more sketches of which cords I wanted to add and where I wanted to put them. After that, I began working on my final drawing by creating the outline first, then adding the cords, and finally, adding the texture to the carpet in order to fill up the entire page.
2.The composition in my drawing is important because it helps get the viewer's attention by arranging the objects in a certain way. In my drawing, I arranged the cords in a way that made it look like one was plugged in and the other was resting on the carpet. I also made sure that the plugs and sockets were the main focus, while the carpet was mostly the background. 3.When adding values, I made sure to use a variety of pencils, and look at my references to be sure that the shading was correct. For the cords, I would use a darker pencil and transition to a lighter shade for the plugs. For the area surrounding the sockets, I used the lightest pencils in order to give it some form of value but still make it the lightest thing in the image. 4.I believe I was able to add different values. As stated above, I used various types of pencils to add darker values to different sections of the image. I also was able to use value transitions in some sections of the art. 5.Overall, I like my craftsmanship on this piece. I believe I was able to use perspective to make it seem like the cube-shaped plug was plugged into the socket and that the top of the plug was above everything else. I also think that the outline and design of the main image was successful. I believe that I could have improved on adding a wider range of values and adding a few more transitions in order to make the image look more realistic. I also could have added more to the carpet area or the background. 6.Learning about using different methods to add values was useful for this project. I also believe that learning about perspective helped. I was able to use the notes I took and the information we learned to improve my drawing. 7.During this project, I believe I did grow as an artist. It helped me learn more about adding values using different methods of shading. I also learned about contour drawings and how using that and perspective methods could help me improve my images and make them look more realistic. 8. I believe one of the main obstacles was making sure the texture and perspective of certain parts of the drawing was right. For example, it took a while to think of a way to draw the carpet that would make it seem like the cords and plugs were still above it, while also drawing the right shape that would make it look like the actual carpet in the reference image. Another obstacle was creating the outline of the drawing. I had to redo it a few times since the proportions didn't look as correct as they should have. For this assignment, I was required to find three objects in my house that would usually go unnoticed. I was able to find objects such as remotes and plugs that I then took pictures of. While drawing, I both looked at the actual object, and the black and white pictures I took in order to help with the details and shading. When adding shades or textures, I used methods that we learned in class, such as hatching and cross hatching. I believe that my most successful drawing was the one in the middle, since I think the perspective of the buttons and the shading made it look slightly more realistic.
This was a practice assignment where I had to practice shading using different drawing pencils to add value. There had to be a transition from a darker shade to a lighter one. This practice sheet was able to help me with other assignments, such as the value forms.
Here, I had to draw 2, 20-minute contour drawings. One had to be a natural object in my house, and the other had to be man-made. After taking the pictures, I would time myself and try to draw as many details using the contour method as I could. I had to draw one in pen and one in pencil. Much like the last 4, I believe the pencil drawing was the best one with the most details.
For this assignment, I was required to draw four contour pictures of items in my house. This means that I had to draw the outline, and then use lines, instead of shading, to add the details. I also had to attempt to not pick up the pencil/pen while drawing. I had to draw two in pen and two in pencil. I decided to pick one natural object and three man-made ones.Personally, I thought the pencil drawings were easier and they finished product looked better than the pen.
DESCRIBE
1. For this assignment, I was required to take three photos related to my experience in the virtual school year. All of the pictures had to be connected to each other in some way. First, I took multiple practice photos before looking at them and picking the three I liked the most. I then edited those three so that they could get the viewer's attention better. Finally, I uploaded them onto this site. ANALYZE 2. I believe I used value and contrast in some of the photographs. For example, in the first photo of the supplies cart, I had the lower part be a darker shade than the upper part. For the computer, there was a contrast between the white screen and the gray and black background. 3. I also believe I used emphasis in my pictures. The first photograph gives the most attention to the cart, while other objects are in the background. I did that to emphasize that the cart was the most important thing in the image. This also applies to the image of the computer, since that is also emphasized in the foreground. INTERPRET 4. I was inspired to take these pictures because they were all connected to my virtual school experience. The first picture is of the cart, which was purchased recently in order to keep all of my folders and school supplies in an organized place. The second picture is of the computer I've been using for classes and school meetings. The final picture is of the new working area that I've been using for the past two weeks of school. I believe all of these apply to virtual school. JUDGE 5. I was able to successfully think of photos that represented the school year and take them at different angles in order to make them more interesting. I was also able to edit the pictures in order to give them more value. 6. I learned more about photography and how emphasizing certain parts of a picture may make it look better. I also learned that instead of just taking one picture of an item for my project, I should practice taking multiple ones and see which one is the best. |
